WHY CONSIDER IT
Bars connect mining to useful production objects, and the Furnace is itself a prerequisite for Heavy Furnace.
When it fits: Build early when mining yields ore and you need metal for farm expansion.
The tradeoff: Requires copper ore and stone; later Heavy Furnace crafting requires two Furnaces plus iron and stone.
