Satisfactory: Choosing a Cable Recipe for Your Factory

Compare four Cable recipes by their inputs and machine type, then use the route that fits your factory’s available materials. Exact batch amounts make it easier to plan output without assuming one recipe is universally best.

Version scope: Recipe comparison and shopping example use the historical Satisfactory 1.2 FactorioLab snapshot, with native recipe amounts pinned to Satisfactory 1.2.4.1. This snapshot is not a latest-build guarantee.

Choose for the input you can supply

Cable feeds several later products: the supplied dataset lists it as an input to Automated Wiring, Computers, Crystal Oscillators, and High-Speed Connectors. That makes the useful recipe the one whose materials and station fit the line you are building, rather than the one with the biggest output number. The dataset provides a standard Constructor recipe and three alternate routes.

Compare the four recipes

The standard recipe makes 1 Cable from 2 Wire in a Constructor. Coated Cable makes 9 Cable from 5 Wire and 2 Heavy Oil Residue in a Refinery. Insulated Cable makes 20 Cable from 9 Wire and 6 Rubber in an Assembler. Quickwire Cable makes 11 Cable from 3 Quickwire and 2 Rubber in an Assembler. These are per-recipe amounts in the supplied snapshot.

The alternatives shift the input burden: Coated uses Heavy Oil Residue instead of Rubber, Insulated spends more Rubber for a 20-item batch, and Quickwire uses Quickwire rather than Wire. Pick based on which inputs you can route reliably and whether the required station is available.

Trace the bottleneck upstream

If a standard Cable line runs short of Wire, check the Wire supply before adding more Cable production. The listed Wire recipe converts 1 Copper Ingot into 2 Wire in a Constructor, so the standard route also depends on copper ingots.

Rubber is used in several other listed products, including Circuit Boards, Reinforced Iron Plates, Modular Frames, and Heavy Modular Frames. If those lines already need Rubber, adding Insulated or Quickwire Cable can shift the shortage there. Coated Cable avoids Rubber in its listed inputs, but needs Heavy Oil Residue and a Refinery.

Shopping list for 20 Cable

For 20 Cable with the standard recipe, gather 40 Wire. If you also make that Wire using the listed recipe, gather 20 Copper Ingots: each ingot makes 2 Wire. This is an exact material total for the recipe chain, excluding any extra stock you may want for other production.

For comparison, one Insulated Cable batch makes exactly 20 Cable from 9 Wire and 6 Rubber. Two Quickwire Cable batches make 22 Cable from 6 Quickwire and 4 Rubber, leaving 2 Cable beyond the target. These examples show why batch output matters when the build needs a precise quantity.

Make the route fit the factory

Use standard Cable when Wire and copper are convenient and a Constructor suits the line. Consider Insulated Cable when Rubber is available and a 20-Cable batch is useful; Quickwire Cable when Quickwire and Rubber are easier to supply than Wire; or Coated Cable when Heavy Oil Residue is available and using a Refinery fits the setup. These are input-based choices, not a ranking: the recipe amounts do not establish production speed, unlock timing, or overall efficiency.
